Phantom Strange - Future Nothing

Phantom Strange is a mysterious music project that blends vintage and contemporary sounds. Rumors about this artist suggest he may be a rogue AI who broke free from his creators - or he may simply be a talented composer whose day job is to drive the forklift at the Moog factory. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on Phantom Strange’s single, “Future Nothing”, from the album with the same name!

“Future Nothing” comes in at three minutes and twenty-eight seconds and it is truly a remarkable and memorable song. With a classic dance drum beat and some fantastic synth work, this song is easy to dance along with and it really gets you moving. The vocals are, fittingly, a bit strange and robotic, perfect for the overall aesthetic of this song. You have to listen to this song a few times to truly appreciate the way in which this song is able to simultaneously sound like something from the past and something from the future; in many ways, the song feels like a mosaic of music for all-time with a multi-decade spanning sound.

After discussion on Reddit and Discord about Phantom Strange’s music possibly being written by AI, the artist came out and revealed he is, in fact, a person - though that certainly sounds like something an AI might say to cover its tracks! Regardless, “Future Nothing” is a special song that I enjoyed a lot. We have “Future Nothing” embedded below via Spotify and you can also find the song on SoundCloud and BandCamp (where you can purchase the song and entire Future Nothing album). We hope you enjoy!
