Matthew Shell - Towards New Beginnings & Passion in Her Soul
Matthew Shell is a music producer, sound engineer, eLearning professional, guitarist and percussionist who was classically trained in piano by his mother and taught guitar basics by his father. Shell also learned his excellent production skills while studying at Omega Recording Studios. Today we dive into two of Matthew Shell’s new singles, “Towards New Beginnings” (featuring Douglas Lira), the title track from his new album of guitar-driven instrumental songs and “Passion in Her Soul” (featuring Marisa Frantz) as released via Narked Records.
“Towards New Beginnings” starts pretty subdued with an acoustic guitar taking the spotlight early on before more instruments kick in, building into something much more emotive and heartfelt. It is easy to tell that this song was composed and performed expertly; the track has multiple layers to it that give it both a lot of texture as well as spirit. I found “Towards New Beginnings” extremely peaceful and inspiring; while listening, I imagined myself waking up on a bright and sunny day with the future at my fingertips, reinforcing the songs title and leading me to truly believe that Matthew Shell was able to capture the essence of moving towards new beginnings with this song.
“Passion in Her Soul” also starts intentionally subdued but builds stronger and stronger throughout the track with Shell’s guitar shining bright throughout. These subtle introductions in Shell’s music do a great job of building an atmospheric soundscape for his songs; overall, this track does an excellent job of providing a richly positive atmosphere and has a very smooth finish. What sets “Passion in Her Soul” aside from some of Shell’s other work is the vocals provided by Marisa Frantz; although she is only singing melodies and not actual words, her vocals enhance the feelings provided by the song in a truly beautiful way. “Passion in Her Soul” highlights something exceptional that I have noticed about Matthew Shell’s music: it has exceptional healing and relaxing qualities.
When planning his new album, Matthew Shell set out to create music that would be easy to study to or that would fit well during a romantic dinner, and I think “Towards New Beginnings” as an album does a great job of accomplishing that goal with its inspiring and heartfelt nature. On his new music, Shell had this to say:
“My inspiration comes from how the world has completely changed in these crazy times of the coronavirus, and how the world needs calming peaceful music as we head towards new beginnings. But the beauty of creating instrumental music is that it can mean something unique to every listener.”
