Junya Komori - 祈の剣 w/Interview | KJ Warriors’ Sound


Junya Komori is an exceptional music composer from Japan. One of our all-time favorites here at Which Coast, we have listened to a lot of Komori’s music over the last couple of years. Today we are back again to listen to Junya Komori’s newest album, 祈の剣, which roughly translates to Sword of the Prayer!

The album opens up with “Dreams” which is indeed filled with lush, dreamy vibes. I love this song as an opener because it opens differently from many of Komori’s other albums in a very unique and appealing way. Up next is “Braver’s Genes”. This song has some franticness to it that will surely get your heart racing and blood pumping and it is brimming with the type of energy that Komori’s KJ Warriors’ Sound is known for. “Relight”, the longest song on the album, follows and continues the energy from the previous song. I found this track to have some of the most interesting layering and production of anything I have heard from Komori before and it stands out as a result.

Fourth is “Medieval Journey”; this song will transport you into the medieval times and serves as the soundtrack to the start of an epic adventure. “Different Horizon” is fifth and it slows things down a bit with a very deep, introspective kind of sound that serves as a welcome and insightful pause from the action. “Light of Forest” is next and it features an incredibly rich soundscape that I found to be quite beautiful. Truly, this song is an emotional moment on the album and it certainly stands out as a result.

“Sage’s Journey” is the seventh track and this song takes me back to the earliest days of writing about Komori’s music. There is just a certain kind of massive energy within songs like this that can only have been produced by one man. “Seeking A Treasure” follows; this song really leaves a powerful impression and the fact that it is positioned toward the middle of the album’s tracklist makes it a perfect song in a perfect spot on the album. “8th Ocean” is the ninth song from the album and, especially from the middle of the song to the end, this is a splendid throwback to many of Komori’s pirate-themed pieces. Again, there is only one composer who can make music like this.

In the tenth spot on the album is “Curse”, a song that fully embodies the nature of the word. This song has a real gloom and haziness to it that sets it apart from many of the other songs on the album while also pushing the overarching narrative forward. “Distanced Location” is up next and this one features yet another brilliant soundscape that I was left deeply impressed by. Especially in this song’s closing moments, there are quite a few complex emotions that jumped out through my headphones in an impressive way. “Far the Way” is twelfth and it features an almost mechanical kind of production to it before looping back into the main theme from the album; this one is definitely interesting.

To continue the intrigue, “Traveler’s Journal” is unlike anything else on the album and, I must say, it is almost haunting in its nature - in a good way. “Flow Down” is the fourteenth song and probably my personal favorite from the album. This song takes Komori’s overall well-rounded approach and brings all of his strengths to the forefront in one absolutely epic and emotive piece. “Hope’s Jig” follows and the combination of wind and string instruments in this song is truly something to behold. This song is another truly special piece that captures the overall theme of this album in a unique way.

As we approach the end of the album, “White Lily” paints yet another fascinating soundscape that continues the implied narrative of this album. “Warrior’s Lullaby” is the penultimate song from the album and it, to me, sounds like the recounting of an epic tale at the end of a marvelous journey. I love how this song seems to start to wrap things up beautifully. Closing out the album is the aptly titled “Brilliant Anthem” which is, naturally, quite brilliant. I enjoy the use of the overarching theme one final time as the narrative of the album draws to its final, epic, conclusion.

What is the concept into this album?
I put importance in this album for humane such as Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology according to academic fields. It's very important that these give strength of heart.
Why did you thought that makes this concept?
I realized that poorness and criminal phenomenon are very relevant.
Hence, I decided to make braver to the people who into such as environment with limitation of able to do things as long as I can.
How did you make and sort the separate tracks?
I'm conscious of world-wide then I've included traditional essence from separate locations.
According to your description, we understand that a bit of difference in your phase that makes music. What is the reason in your opinion?
Diffinitely, I'm making a bit of odd way and I've already realized about this part.
I think my environment that has difficulty for to make sounds has affected me.
I can describe that I'm also one of the victims affected by own not good environment.
Finally, how do you want to make your own way?
I'll make a lot of communications in the near future.
I learned conversation in English and have been reviewed highly a lot from the teachers.
I don't scare about speaking in English.
Also, the language is not academic and will be in our own living, I realized again.
