In addition to his career a as a musician, John Michael Ferrari is a man of many talents, working as a photographer, cinematographer, director, creative producer, music arranger, and author; his music seems to reflect all of his life experiences and it all comes together to create a sound uniquely his own. Ferrari’s newest album is “a collection of songs inspired by his own experiences and those of others” entitled Be the Smile on Your Face.
Be the Smile on Your Face begins with the title track and immediately the listener is treated to the tenderness and soul provided by John Michael Ferrari’s excellent vocal performances. Throughout the album, I noticed a lot of skilled country instrumentation, very clean production and a strong dose of passionate sincerity; John Michael Ferrari really puts his very soul into the music on Be the Smile on Your Face and the result is a memorable album that hits in all the right places.
Slower ballads like “Peggy Sues” and “So Beautiful” are beautifully composed and I found them to be emotional hard-hitters. In addition, the tracks that seemed to stand out most to me were “Be the Smile on Your Face” for its tender sincerity, “Don’t Need a Reason” which gave me with feelings similar to those I have when I listen to Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”, and the peppy “You Should Be Winning” which closed the album on a very high note. Ferrari offers a lot of variety that kept me emotional and engaged throughout my experience listening to Be the Smile on Your Face.
Overall, Be the Smile on Your Face shows John Michael Ferrari’s genuine skill as a songwriter; his heart filled lyrics and soulful voice power this album in a way that is sure to resonate with everyone who listens. Be the Smile on Your Face is easy listening country at its best and will definitely leave you in a relaxed mood after each listen.
