Blind Uncle Harry - Song For Kori

Chris “Harry” Doran, known by his artist name Blind Uncle Harry, is a singer/songwriter from Bloomington Indiana. We have previously covered two of Blind Uncle Harry’s songs, “Christmas Day in Australia” and “Dopesmokers of the World Unite and Take Over”, both of which are one of a kind listening experiences. Today we take a dive into another single from Blind Uncle Harry, “Song For Kori”.

Unapologetically folksy, “Song For Kori” comes in at five minutes and twelve seconds, telling the tale of a man and his daughter, the titular Kori. Tackling the subject of healthcare and its ramifications on the American people, “Song For Kori” is a meaningful critique of something that many American families are faced with each year - and to some, has become normal; the father in this song is very sick and unable to work to provide for his family and, ultimately, is worth more to his family alive than dead. The way in which Blind Uncle Harry captures the complex emotions of such a tragic tale in this song is something magnificent - and tragic.

Blind Uncle Harry provides a one of a kind listening experience with each and every song and “Song For Kori” is a standout example; of the three tracks we have reviewed from this artist, this one is the most subdued and heart-wrenching.
