SirenBlue - Same but Different

SirenBlue is a UK-based Indie Rock/Power Pop band formed in the early 2000’s. After years of inactivity, the group came together again during the pandemic to remaster their second album. The members of SirenBlue eventually rediscovered their passion and began to work on new material together. Today we take a dive into SirenBlue’s new album, Same but Different, which was released on October 14, 2021.

Same but Different opens with “Give It Away” and from its opening notes you will find yourself drawn in. The track features catchy performances both by the lead guitar and piano, pairing well with the infectious vocal melody to leave a strong - and memorable - impression that starts the album off perfectly. Following is “Happy Song”, an incredibly fitting name for the incredibly melodic and hook-y track. Undoubtedly, this song is a radio-hungry piece of Power Pop, strongly deserving of spinning across the airwaves; to me, this is the perfect driving song with its abundant energy and it would be a real day brightener to catch on the radio. “Safe” is up next and slows things down a bit. A heartfelt ballad with some honest lyrics, “Safe” features all elements of the band working together in perfect harmony. These first three songs show the incredible work with melody that SirenBlue is capable of while also showing quite a bit of the group’s range.

The fourth track from Same but Different is “Vague Disaster” and this rhythmic master piece has quite a lot of charm. This song felt quite a bit different from a lot of the other tracks on the album and I really enjoy how this one has its own distinctive sound to it. “Compromise” follows as the fifth song and is a masterclass in guitar work. Throughout the track, the passion-infused lead guitar shares the spotlight with the vocals and the two combine to make a dynamic duo. Up next is “Honest” which has some 90’s Pop-Rock vibes to it. Indeed, this song’s excellent Pop finish makes it an easy to listen to track in a way that I think gives it broad appeal and radio potential; I truly feel like I could show this one to anyone I know and they would enjoy it. Following is “Tell Myself”, the longest track from Same but Different at five minutes and thirty-eight seconds. The vocal harmonies in this song are spectacular and pair well with the guitar to really drive the song’s heartfelt emotions home.

“Every Other Weekend” was the first song that SirenBlue released from Same but Different and it is easy to tell why the band made the decision to use this as a lead single. From start to finish, this song is a shining example of the group’s best musical qualities, featuring blistering guitar work, ridiculously catchy vocal melody and an excellent performance from the rhythm section. “In Time”, the penultimate track from the album is next and is completely different from everything so far on Same but Different. Quiet vocals pair with a piano and there is something quite special about the naturally genuine way this track sounds that you will want to experience for yourself. Closing out the album is “Blue Horizon” - and what a spectacular finisher it is. For one final time, SirenBlue’s incredible work with melody is on display, with both the vocal melody and the lead guitar turning in exceptional performances; I especially enjoyed how the lead guitar accented the vocals perfectly throughout the verses and chorus.

SirenBlue is an amazing group and I am sure you will be left with that same impression after listening to Same but Different. The group’s guitar and vocal performances are exceptional, brimming with incredible melodic work that has left quite a lasting impression with me. Each song from this album has something a bit different to offer compared to the others and the way each piece of music gels together so cohesively is truly exceptional. “Happy Song” and “Every Other Weekend” are two of my favorite tracks from any group I’ve listened to this year but you will definitely want to experience every song from Same but Different as they each provide something unique and remarkable. There is a lot to enjoy throughout the album’s entire duration.
