Shari Rowe - The Heavy
Shari Rowe is a country artist who “infuses her love of faith and family into everything she does”, and her life philosophy definitely shows in her music; her take on modern country music is refreshing and extremely spirited, featuring the best parts of radio-friendly country mixed with an added dose of heart. Her latest release, “The Heavy”, which came out on June 26th, 2020, is an excellent example of her stellar work and gives us a look into her spirited songwriting.
Instrumentally, “The Heavy” is an expertly crafted mid-tempo country song with the instruments doing a great job in supporting Rowe’s excellent vocals. “The Heavy” features very genuine and heartfelt lyrics, with Rowe trying to help guide people through tough times in life and encouraging the rest of us to follow her lead. With the encouraging line “be the light in the heavy”, Rowe gives us a deeply encouraging mantra to live by in a time where so much darkness has enveloped our world; it is our responsibility to look out for each other and help whenever and however we can. I found Rowe’s message throughout the track to be inspiring and I found this part of the chorus particularly compelling:
“Be a brother, man,
Lend a lovin’ hand
Be a spark in the dark
For the ones who can’t
Start their own fire,
Arc their own wires
Be a house in the harbor
Leadin’ to the land”
“The Heavy” truly shines as an anthem of hope in a time that desperately needs music so full of light; this is the kind of music that can cheer you up on a bad day while simultaneously providing you with the resolve to help other people who need it. “The Heavy” also serves as an excellent starter song while getting familiar with Shari Rowe’s discography and serves as an introduction into her kindness and compassion as a person as well as the way she infuses so much of her soul into her lyrics and vocal performances.
