Marquette King - Lose Control

Marquette King is a musician specializing in what he calls “pop-hop”, a mixture between pop and hip-hop. King is perhaps best known for his NFL career where he shined not only as one of the league’s greatest punters but also as one of the league’s great personalities. An injury in 2018 that has kept King out of football action spurred a return to music, another passion of his, and he has since released quite a few tracks; “Lose Control” is one of those standout tracks and makes the case for King having found a second professional fire through music.

“Lose Control”, which features ProfessionalRegularGuy, is at its heart an energetic summer anthem. Throughout the track, several mentions of “losing control” and encouragements to “turn up” drive the lyrics and encourage the listener to let loose. King brings some in-your-face flow that is also ridiculously catchy; this skillful yet still raw style of rapping fits the track very well and shows off King’s dynamic talent. The expertly produced instrumental portion of the track has hip-hop elements with some lite-EDM vibes to it, making it easy to dance to. Overall, “Lose Control” is the kind of song you’d expect to hear at a house party or a sporting event; it is a very hype song that gets you in the mood to, quite literally, “lose control”.

As a resident of St. Louis, I got to experience King’s entertainment factor firsthand while he punted for the Battlehawks in the short-lived XFL revival this past Spring and I truly believe that he is a one of a kind personality with immense talent so it came as no surprise that he also makes exceptional music. King’s ability to entertain as well as his passion for everything he does shines through in his music and he is definitely an artist that is capable of making waves in today’s music industry.
