Luanne Hunt - Life Ain’t No Picnic

Luanne Hunt is an award-winning singer and songwriter. A rising star in the Independent Country music scene, Hunt has the experience and chops to craft some absolutely incredible music. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on Luanne Hunt’s eight-track album, Life Ain’t No Picnic!

Life Ain’t No Picnic begins with “I’ll See You In My New Year’s Dreams”, which introduces the 40’s and 50’s-inspired motifs, capturing the kind of spirit that artists of years gone by like Sinatra shared with the world. I really like this song because it is particularly memorable and also sets up the expectations for what the rest of the album will showcase. “The Picnic” follows and this song is incredibly reflective. The storytelling method that Hunt uses for the lyrics makes it special and its overall sound really hits deep. “That’s How You Know He’s A Hero” is third and this one strikes a very personal emotional cord. Hunt’s deep level of admiration expressed through the lyrics is really touching - I think you all will love this song.

“How The Curtains Blow” is the fourth song from Life Ain’t No Picnic. An upbeat sounding song, the lyrics contain a deeper meaning and I think you will find this song particularly relatable. I found the backing vocals - conversational, in a way - to be of note, really giving this song some unique elements among many other unique tracks. “Love Forgives”, the longest song on the album, is up next. This piano-driven number has my favorite instrumental on the album (with some great saxophone providing accent work as well), and Hunt’s lyrics once again shine through as a highlight. Sixth is “Lifting Weights” and this one has the sound of some awesome radio throwbacks. A busy but well-executed backing instrumental supports a peppy vocal melody that helps round the song out as something that will undoubtedly get stuck in your head.

The penultimate track from Life Ain’t No Picnic is “The Good One”, an aptly named track as it is a truly good one. It has a real soothing nature that has such a nice vibe to it, though the lyrics have a bit deeper of a meaning than you may find on the surface. “More Than Just My Name” closes the album out, and wow, what a strong way to finish! An authentic approach to the lyrics makes this song hit home in such a deep-cutting way; while this is the case throughout most of the album, Hunt’s words will really leave a deep impact on you in this song. I feel like “More Than Just My Name” is the perfect stamp to close things out.

Incredibly, Life Ain’t No Picnic is Luanne Hunt’s twenty-second album; you can feel the years of experience and passion reverberating throughout the entire duration of this splendid album and the high quality of all eight songs is a testament to just how talented this artist truly is. I deeply appreciate Hunt’s love for throwback sounds and she executes the swagger and spirit of 40’s and 50’s tunes perfectly on this album.
