John Vento - That Damn War (Father & Son)

John Vento is a musician based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Previously, we have shared our looks into John Vento’s exceptional tracks “Not Your Kinda’ Man” and “New Mexico Way”, both of which give us a solid glimpse into the man that is John Vento, while also showing us his natural and authentic sound. Today we take a dive into John Vento’s latest release, “That Damn War (Father & Son)”.

Coming from an honest place, “That Damn War (Father & Son")” walks us through some of the aspects of Vento’s relationship with his father and how Vietnam - the titular “war” - always haunted him. Although John Vento is speaking directly about his own father, his story is familiar enough that he is almost speaking more broadly on an entire generation of fathers who returned home to no fanfare, their sacrifices treated as though they were in vain. Vento wraps up this sad story by mentioning how he found his father’s purple heart in his old fishing tackle box, a poignant way to end an overall sad story.

Through “That Damn War (Father & Son)”, we get another look at that authentic sense of grit that John Vento provides in his music. This artist is not afraid to tackle tough subjects head on and this song will flat out give you the chills. You can keep up with John Vento through Facebook or his website and as always we have “That Damn War (Father & Son)” embedded below.
