Javier Rodriguez - Morpheus pt. 1

Javier Rodriguez is a Spanish-born, London-based music composer and performer. Known as a dynamic artist, Rodriguez learned from legendary pianist Rafael Orozco in his earlier days. Over the years, Rodriguez has become accomplished and well-regarded, spending many years as an in-demand composer for ballet and cinema and serving a stint as Music Director of The World Ballet. Today we are excited to share our thoughts on Javier Rodriguez’s fresh single, “Morpheus pt. 1” from his new album Morpheus!

A splendid and captivating piece, “Morpheus pt. 1” comes in at exactly four minutes in length and leaves its mark in a meaningful way during that timespan. This song builds a beautiful and enchanting soundscape that provides a refreshing feeling, the kind that reminds me of waking up after a good nights’ sleep; the spacing of the notes of the prevailing melody plant the seeds for that dreamy kind of feel. What I appreciate most about this piece is that it is not overly flashy or showy, instead displaying a subdued elegance that only a master could capture; the song feels like it is a living, breathing entity and it shines Javier Rodriguez’s skills in a very bright light.

After listening to “Morpheus pt. 1”, I decided to listen to the rest of Morpheus to have a better understanding of the full body of work that this single came from and I must say that I was left quite impressed. Worth mentioning are some other highlight tracks from Morpheus which include “Lunar Lullaby”, “Morpheus pt. II” and “Quantum”, though I fully encourage anyone who enjoys “Morpheus pt. 1” to give the album a spin in its entirety.

As it stands, Javier Rodriguez is a brilliant and undeniably talented composer and “Morpheus pt. 1” is an exceptional piece.
