Alias Wayne - Joan of Ottawa

Ranzel X Kendrick is a singer/songwriter with a unique skillset and an alias: Alias Wayne. The music he releases as Alias Wayne seems to have a lot of influences including traditional singer/songwriter acoustic music while incorporating a sprinkle of both classic rock and 90’s-flavored alt- rock into the mix. Today I have the opportunity to check out “Joan of Ottawa”, the second track from his 6-track album Firebrand.

“Joan of Ottawa” begins a bit slowly and initially lulled me into thinking it was going to be a more folk-style release than I was expecting; this approach is turned on its head a bit by the end of the song as more instruments, including a distorted electric guitar, join the party. The lyrics do follow a bit of a folk approach, though, featuring a bit of a skillful storytelling approach. The instrumental portion of the track is well written and echoes the vocals very well; my favorite part of the track was the way in which the electric guitar enriched the way the track sounded, building throughout the track and ending with a triumphant rock guitar solo.

Ranzel X Kendrick is certainly a gifted musician and his project Alias Wayne serves as an excellent display of his skill. You can check out Ranzel X Kendrick/Alias Wayne’s website here and as always we have “Joan of Ottawa” embedded below!
